£0.00
sold out

Early 20th century indigo linen biaude smock. A nice example of a piece of French historical clothing traditionally worn by "maquignon" or cattle and horse merchants but also worn by a wide variety of merchants, market traders, shop keepers and other workers, sometimes for best or sometimes as a work overall.

Beautiful design and fabric, natural indigo dyed fine linen . Two large chest D pockets, heavily gathered cuffs, shoulder and front under the collar. Mother of pearl buttons throughout with some horn, wood and glass replacements.

Oversized, varied fit garment but the measurements are:

25” shoulder seam to seam, 19’ shoulder seam to cuff, 36” all the way across the chest and 41” length.

Condition:

Some fading throughout, a few neat repairs and darns, a small patch on one cuff, a patch on one sleeve, marking throughout and a couple of small holes.
