Antique 1900 Indigo Linen Biaude Smock

£0.00
sold out

Early 20th century indigo linen biaude smock. A nice example of a piece of French historical clothing traditionally worn by "maquinon" or cattle and horse merchants but also worn by a wide variety of merchants, market traders, shop keepers and other workers, sometimes for best or sometimes as a work overall.

Beautiful design and fabric, natural indigo dyed fine linen, decorative chain and hook closure at the neck, which looks to have replaced another (old stitching is still present) . Two large chest pockets, heavily gathered cuffs, shoulder and front under the collar. Both sleeves have neatly patched repairs with matching fabric and both cuffs replaced.

Oversized, varied fit garment but the measurements are:

24” shoulder seam to seam, 19’ shoulder seam to cuff, 36” all the way across the chest and 36” length.

Condition:

Some fading throughout, a few neat repairs, marking throughout and a couple of holes.
